Halloween 2014: Dr Who Clockwork Man Mask

TICK TOCK, TICK TOCK, TICK TOCK... are you ready? Have you aged properly? Can you help me restore the ships parts?
Very much so one of my absolute favorite episodes of Dr Who! I remember when I first saw it years ago and I was just astonished with the quality of the masks and the depth of the story! So with out further ado I present to you,
The Clockwork Man.

Begin by plotting your design with a white eyeliner pencil.
Fill anything outside of the white with white water activated body paint.
Use a brush to make the color more opaque.
Powder with a white eyeshadow! Really powder. The more cakey mask like the better.

Begin the contour of the ever so creepy GRIN simply by well... grinning. It will make the makeup more natural if you follow your own personal contours. Go around the cheeks, being sure to stay very rounded. For added definition add a small wing at the end. Contour from the edge of your mouth down to your jaw (stretching your mouth ourwards really helps to bring out this line. And last shade just above the ball of your chinnychinchin.

Press a white eyeshadow onto and around the mouth. Make the white as opaque as possible.
Beginning the mouth, start to outline a very pointy sharp shape with a deep lip color. If you have fuller lips like myself, you may want to make the lips smaller than your own natural lips.
 Fill in your shape!
Now comes the hard part... Try your best to pull the shape out naturally from your lips and connect it to the bottom. The best way to describe how this shape should look is to think of the Jack Nicholson Joker. This is very VERY similar. You want the shape to curve slightly upwards towards the small downturned wing from the cheek contour.
Start filling in inner eye shape with a black cream makeup. You want to do this in small steps to help prevent creasing. Fill in the outer most part around the orbital bone and then press a black shadow into the paint. then do the same with the upper lid, and then the lower lid! Don't fuss too much. You can always remove any of the excess when you are done!
With a smaller brush begin to very carefully fill in the lower outer eyeshape with any color you would like! Every mask in the episode was different. So if you want pink have some pink! If you want turquoise, get a little turquoise in your life! Typically they use different shades of one color for the upper and lower portions.
The lower color ends about at the crease and is curved slightly downward.
Now fill in the top shape. Keep the upper shape around the brow in a downturned angry shape. The shape of eyes is almost butterfly like.
Time to add a little gold!

In the center of the eyes, start to make pointed oval shape. (My eye was watering... please excuse my little unfinished eyeball! Haha!) And for some reason I must not have taken a picture...BRAINFART! Make a steeple shape coming up from the oval.
Fill in down from the brow to the corner of the eye. Begin to outline every EVERY part of the "mask" like shape.
Go around the entirety of the mask.
Define where your two mask colors meet.
Outline around the inner part of the eye.
Now add in little swirls. Two on top and one on the bottom. Also add the two swirls that come up from the top edges of the mask. They come up towards the the center of the forehead and loop at the ends. (Sorry camera fail and I lost the photos, you will be able to see what I mean though.)

Now begin defining with black shadow and a light hand. Fill in and around your little gold "nugget". Almost making it look like a squished baseball.
 Redefine your grin.
And define all the way around the mask shape. (Here you can see the loop shapes that come up from the top.) Add some little frown upsidedown arrows above the brows and use a brown shadow to create a cracked weathered look. You really don't have to be precise. Just use a thin brush and wiggle around the white areas, just try to make them slightly square.
And YOU'RE DONE!

Thank you so, so much fro reading! I hope you enjoyed! Just so you know... if you are 37... Your brain is ready for the ship!
